A Celebrity-Led Movement Just Launched This Seriously Cool Shirt Promoting an Important Cause

It’s not everyday that Hollywood A-listers come together to personally address important societal issues. That’s probably why the Time’s Up Movement has gotten quite a lot of support to fulfill their goal of fighting harassment and gender inequality.

While the movement’s approach is multi-faceted, their latest efforts come in the form of a t-shirt, designed to some up their advocacy for equal pay.

‘Time’s Up, Pay Up’

The shirt features a direct call to employers to ‘pay up’ their women employees.

Launched a day before the National Equal Pay Day in the beginning of April, the ‘Time’s Up, Pay Up’ shirt is part of the movement’s national campaign to talk about the problem of pay inequality.

According to the organization, women, especially women of color, are still earning less than their male counterparts in the workplace despite holding the same positions and jobs. One of their goals is to close this gender gap.

The shirts are produced in partnership with PrinkShop, a New York startup responsible for printing the Time’s Up, Pay Up shirts. Retailing for $40, proceeds from the shirt sales will directly go to fund the movement’s other initiatives. As of latest, the movement’s legal defense fund has attracted $25 million in donations and have been used to fund over 100 legal cases involving women.

The Time’s Up movement also joined forces with the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and California’s labor secretary to unveil the joint program, #EqualPayCA. The program’s mission is to help in promoting the findings of the California Pay Equity Task Force.

Time’s Up Movement

Time’s Up supporters include both men and women, and people of all colors.

The Time’s Up movement was founded in relation to the Me Too Movement, which brought light to the rampant harassment that women face in Hollywood, and was spearheaded by a group of industry professionals including numerous celebrities.

Officially launched in 2018, the movement has since been busy with plenty of initiatives and fundraising activities. They’ve notably partnered with eBay, released Time’s Up wristbands and campaigned during the 2019 Golden Globe Awards.

Their primary goal is to connect victims of harassment to legal aid. According to sources, the movement has gathered almost 800 volunteer lawyers.

Celebrity Members

Some of the female celebrities active in the Time’s Up movement during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Some of the actresses active in working in the movement are Reese Witherspoon, America Ferrera and Natalie Portman.

Witherspoon is credited as one of the first celebrities to help Time’s Up take off and even made it a point to connect women in Hollywood to the movement.

Meanwhile, Superstore star Ferrera, who has been an advocate for women’s rights for a long time, has also been at the forefront of Time’s Up initiatives.

And it can be remembered that Portman made a statement when she called out the all-male nominees at the 2018 Golden Globes’ best director category. What more, she delivered a stirring speech on the power of women during a Variety event that has been shared all over the Internet.
