The Creators of Game of Thrones Are Moving to Netflix, And Here’s Why Everyone Is Thrilled!

Ami Ciccone Oct 25, 2019

As a natural progression in their careers, the creators of the ultra-popular TV show Game of Thrones are now looking towards the future as their masterpiece series has concluded earlier this year. Naturally, fans are expecting a lot from the two, and would naturally be willing to watch another the show made by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Both David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have emerged as very successful show creators after the phenomenal success of Game of Thrones.

But, and rather, unfortunately, they are only two individuals, and hence have the capacity to work on a limited number of projects at the same time. Naturally, this has resulted in some competition between television networks, and it was only a matter of time before Weiss and Benioff had to choose a network that would host their next show. And according to reports, they seem to have made that choice.

A New Show

Apparently, Weiss and Benioff were being approached by six different studios to produce films and/or TV shows for them, as all of them are now looking for the next big show that could match the level of success enjoyed by Game of Thrones, which was broadcast on HBO. And reports have now revealed that the two creators would now be working with the online streaming network Netflix.

Game of Thrones became a global phenomenon during its eight-season run and is undoubtedly the most popular show to ever air on HBO.

We are obviously interested in knowing the sum the two creators have been promised for producing content on Netflix, but unfortunately, these figures are seldom disclosed to the public.

The most we know so far is that this compensatory package includes a sum around the 9-figure range for the two creators, which sounds similar to what has been offered to other show creators such as Ryan Murphy, who have also made a move similar to Weiss and Benioff by opting for Netflix to work on their next project.

Netflix Is Thrilled

Obviously, this means that Netflix has emerged victorious among all the networks that had approached Wiess and Benioff to work with them, which includes some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry such as Disney and Amazon. Reports have revealed that even Apple had approached the two creators to produce content for its own streaming service.

According to a statement given by Ted Sarandos, who works with Netflix in the capacity of Chief Content Officer, the network is absolutely thrilled now that Benioff and Weiss have signed on with the company, as they are now considered to be superb storytellers by millions of people around the world.

He called them a brilliantly creative force and remarked about their ability to delight a global audience with their content. This appeal is probably the major reason why networks want to work with Benioff and Weiss in the first place: they make content that has a mass appeal, which means greater earnings for the network.

Benioff and Weiss were working with George R. R. Martin’s material for Game of Thrones which has been credited for the show’s appeal. Only time will tell if they would be able to create something equally or more appealing for Netflix.

As for Weiss and Benioff, they are pretty satisfied with the time they spend with HBO, working with the network for a good ten years to produce eight seasons of Game of Thrones. According to them, they are obviously very grateful for all that they have achieved so far and are looking forward to now working with Netflix.
