How Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Relationship Changed After Divorce

Ami Ciccone Mar 18, 2020

After almost three years since they decided to split, Hollywood’s former golden couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s marriage is officially no more.

While it’s no secret that the two initially didn’t part in good terms, sources are saying that their ‘relationship’ has gotten better. Is it because of the finalization of their divorce? Or perhaps the custody settlement for their kids?

According to court documents, Jolie and Pitt are once again legally single after their divorce was finalized just last Friday.

As a source revealed to Entertainment Tonight, the divorce has allowed the two stars to move forward and was a cause for their improved relationship with each other. Apparently, Jolie and Pitt had a lot of hard feelings against each other in the beginning but has since come a long way.

The source also commented on how the former couple is working together to parent their six children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox.

While the two still have some disagreements, they don’t argue about parenting as much as they did before. Now, they can discuss plans involving their kids much more calmly. Their kids are currently spending time with each of their parents and are reportedly ‘happy and thriving’.

Due to their initial animosity, the ex-couple’s friends said that they weren’t really expecting Jolie and Pitt’s relationship to improve so quickly. They attribute this to the new ‘custody schedule’ that the family is following.

According to them, most of the exes quarrels rooted in misunderstandings about schedules and planning.

Meanwhile, these sources also revealed that the 55-year-old actor is now back in the dating pool. However, they believe that he isn’t after anything serious at the moment. Jolie, on the other hand, is focussing her energy towards her work and kids. She is set to appear in the second installment of the film Maleficent and is busy with film shooting.

The pair first met while on the set of the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith way back in 2005. Playing the titular couple, the two allegedly fell in love during filming leading Pitt to leave his then-wife Jennifer Aniston.

In their 11 years as a couple, sources close to the stars say that the two have always managed to pull through despite constant fights. But the final straw came when their disagreements about their career and personal beliefs began to resurface.

Dropping Pitt’s Surname

Another notable aspect of the stars’ divorce is Jolie’s official dropping of her ex-husband’s surname from her legal name. The 43-year-old actress first adopted the Pitt surname after they married in 2014.

It’s also worth noting that Jolie has previously dropped another last name from her name– her father’s. Born Angelina Jolie Voight to actor Jon Voight and model Marcheline Bertrand, she decided to legally drop her father’s surname after being estranged from him for years.
