In 2018, Saudi Arabia allowed its women to travel abroad and watch the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia as part of an entire slew of changes geared towards fostering inclusivity. This fan was among the lucky few to make the journey. The state’s first inclusive all-fans-welcome event occurred in a UAE stadium in January of the same year.

Contrary to her bemused looks, her national team was on the receiving end, losing 2-1 to Egypt after a valiant effort. The Middle Eastern country didn’t fare any better at its fifth appearance at the four-year event, leaving at the group stage after losses to Russia and Uruguay.

Brazil

Brazillian fans are always looking forward to the World Cup every four years, and for obvious reasons, Brazil’s name is usually on the lips of most soccer lovers. Because of its hugely popular soccer pedigree, the country has become a fan favorite over the years. This fan chose to travel all the way to snowy Russia to show her love for her home team.

She was attending the Brazil and Switzerland match that resulted in a 1-1 tie during the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup competition. During the 1950 World Cup, the country made history by filling the arena to the rafters for the final match against Uruguay in Maracanã.
