Although nicknamed “Die Mannschaft,” meaning “the team,” Germany has yet to prove its teamwork mettle to match Brazil in World Cup trophies, standing at four. In 2014, the Germans graced the quadrennial event, ranking as one of the favorites to win the entire event.
The team didn’t disappoint its fans, including these devoted female supporters who painted their faces with the nation’s flag. Their allegiance to their boys was richly rewarded when the country went all the way to win the trophy. Unfortunately, Germany performed dismally in its defense of the diadem in Russia in 2018, something it hopes to rectify in Qatar in 2022.
