Herb Eliott: Australia – 83
Widely known Australian middle-distance runner Herb Eliott held the world record for the 1,500-metre (metric-mile) race (1958–67) and the mile race (1958–62). He started running competitively at the age of eight and ran his first sub-four-minute mile in 1958, and in that year, he set a new world record for the mile race and 1,500-meter race.
Winning the gold medal by 20 yards at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, Eliott continued to be excellent as he has never lost any mile or 1,500-meter race, even as a retired senior runner. He is happily married with six kids and has shown us that age cannot stop one’s ability to achieve great things.
