Sigrid Thornton made her film debut as Wendy in ‘The FJ Holden’ and in the same year appeared as Maria in the film adaptation of ‘The Getting of Wisdom.’ Earlier, she had appeared on stage before Queen Elizabeth II in 1970 as Rosa Campbell-Praed in ‘Looking Glass on Yesterday.’
Just about 40 years later, Sigrid ventured into Opera Australia’s production and got critical acclaim for her portrayal of Blanche DuBois in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’ Today, her impact is so potent in Australian media that, in his book ‘Big Shift,’ Bernard Salt coined the term “Sigrid factor,” referring to her immense influence.
