David Gulpilil: Maningrida, Northern Australia – 68

This multi-talented gentleman has been active in his career for about 48 years since he was thrust into the limelight by a recognition of his talent by British director Nicholas Roeg in 1971. Having been brought up in the remote parts of Northern Australia among the Aboriginal people, he was an accomplished tribal dancer, and his on-screen charisma launched his acting career.

David Gulpilil went on to accomplish many roles, including winning the Best Actor in a Leading Role for the movie ‘The Tracker’ in 2002. He announced his retirement in 2019 to focus on his health. However, in 2021, the thespian starred in his own documentary ‘My Name is Gulpilil’, telling the story of his life.
