The Farmer Who Made History
With all the troubles that the organization team was having when it came down to selecting a venue, it all wouldn’t have been possible without Max Yasgur. Up until that point, his 600-acre farm was used for farming dairy products. He reportedly received a $10K payment in exchange, which is around $70K today.
Of course, the locals weren’t keen on having 500,000 hippies running around and didn’t take kindly to Max renting out his farm. In 1970 his neighbors sued him for the incident. But Yasgur walked out of the court that day with a $50,000-check to repair his farm damages. He passed away in 1973.
