Barbara Mandrell, 76, Born In 1948 – I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool
Learning to read music and taking guitar lessons as a young girl, Barbara Mandrell started her slow but sure climb to country stardom performing with more established musicians like Joe Maphis in the ‘60s. She would get her shine over a decade later, scoring her first number one hit with Sleeping Single in a Double Bed.
Now content with conquering the airwaves with chart-topping singles, Mandrell set her eyes on showcasing her music and comedic talents alongside her sisters with an eponymous variety show on NBC from 1980 to 1982. Currently 76, Mandrell doesn’t seem to have plans of releasing a 26th album soon but stays busy keeping her legacy alive through social media.
