Brigitte Bardot remains one of cinema’s most famous feminine symbols to this day thanks to her roles in the films And God Created Woman, Contempt, and Love is My Profession. In contrast with her on-screen personas’ hedonistic pursuits, Bardot has dedicated her life to an admirable cause.

Retiring from film, Bardot is now fighting for animal rights through the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the Welfare and Protection of Animals, founded in the ‘80s. Her take on this issue seems to be her least controversial views these days, though, as the 86-year-old faces accusations of making racist remarks.
