Family Ties
Elephants are one of the world’s most intelligent animals, exhibiting emotionally sophisticated behavior within their communities. Herds are matriarchal; these gentle giants form lifelong bonds with their children and each other.
Did you know that, on average, elephant mothers keep their young by their side for 16 years? Then male children (bulls) must leave the herd while females go on to become mothers and potentially grow to become the herd’s matriarch someday. This little calf was invaluable to the family.
