Baby elephants getting trapped doesn’t happen every day in India, so the local authorities were right to be concerned. But as they tried to source equipment, no one seemed willing to offer theirs. They feared the animals might destroy it.
The locals and the forest officers stayed at the scene the entire night, waiting for a lead. Finally, a massive excavator arrived at dawn. But now they had to figure out how to rescue a dangerously exhausted calf without injuring it.
