An Unforeseen Turn of Events

Suddenly the excavator’s engine gave up. Everybody became furious as the operator tried to restart it, but the vehicle wouldn’t cooperate. What could be the issue?

Apparently, the excavator had been releasing smoke for some time, a sign of the engine overheating, which no one had spotted. After sputtering for a while, now the machine had finally given up. Fortunately, one of the locals happened to be a mechanic, but he had to act faster because time wasn’t on their side.
