The phone’s unique selling point is that the product doesn’t sink; it floats, yet it does just the opposite, sinks and falls right to the bottom of the tank. It is a clear case of the misestimation on Dick Smith’s part, who invented the floating phone. However, Smith failed badly, and his company which he founded in 1968, Dick Smith Electronics since then sold 60% of Woolworths in 1980. and the remaining 40% two years later.
iFloat has since then not only pulled off the shelves and the tank there are also no updates about the same. However, the Dick Smith name continues to grow as an online brand, now operated by a company named Kogan.com.
