Meet The Better Halves Of The Most Popular Politicians In America

Ami Ciccone Dec 06, 2021

Kamala Harris & Doug Emhoff – Married For 7 Years

A powerful and influential woman who became an idol to females around the world recently, Kamala Harris swore in as the 49th Vice President of the United States in 2021. It made her the first female, first African-American, and first Asian to bear the title, putting her in the books as the highest-ranking female in the country’s history thus far.

The 56-year-old has been married to a lawyer named Doug Emhoff since 2014, who, with the inauguration, became the first Second Gentleman of United States history. They met on a blind date in 2013 and have a classic love-at-first-sight story to tell. Harris became the stepmother of Emhoff’s children post-marriage.

Nikki Haley & Michael Haley – Married For 25 Years

Nikki Haley has several professional titles like politician, diplomat, businesswoman, and author under her belt. Her name will go down in history as the 116th, yet first, female Governor of South Carolina. It means that her husband of 25 years and father of her two kids, Michael Haley, was the first First Gentleman of the state.

While Nikki has been invested in her political career, Michael continues to serve as an officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard. The 49-year-old Nikki’s most recent professional title was United States Ambassador to the United Nations, which only ended in 2018 as she voluntarily stepped down.

Jimmy Carter & Rosalynn Carter – Married For 75 Years

Back in the day, getting married at a young age was the social norm. Therefore, no one batted an eye when Jimmy Carter married Rosalynn Carter when she was barely 19 years old. In July 2021, the Carters will celebrate 75 years of marriage, which isn’t something you’d hear very often these days.

It was Rosalynn who developed feelings first while Carter was in the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. They not only raised four children but are fortunate enough to be alive to see over a dozen great-grandchildren. Plus, how can we forget their time as the President and First Lady of the United States between 1977 and 1981?
