Portlock, A Ghost Town in Alaska
Named after Nathaniel Portlock, a ghost town exists in Alaska. Located in Port Chatham bay, it was an active cannery community in the early 20th century. Around the 40s’, several sheep hunters disappeared in the hills outside the town.
An article from the Anchorage Daily News in 1973 stated that dismembered bodies of some missing people were washed ashore in the lagoon. Villagers blamed the disappearances and unexplained deaths on Nantinaq, a Bigfoot-like creature. The events led the residents to flee in masses, and it has been abandoned since.
