A Violin Salvaged after the Titanic Sank
This worn-down violin tells a story; it has undoubtedly seen better days but at the same time, it looks like a well-cared-for instrument. String quartets and orchestras make good use of the 500-year-old musical equipment, and the average violinist reportedly burns 170 calories per hour. Andrea Amato designed the violin in the 1500s, and often it is associated with the upper echelons of society.
This particular instrument doesn’t really stand out until you hear about its origins. Someone realized that it belonged to Wallace Hartley, who was the lead violinist aboard the ill-fated Titanic when it sank. Salvaged after the fact, the violin is currently worth an eye-watering $1.5M.
