The Aftermath of World War II
Roosevelt’s decision to increase gold prices attracted new miners to the town, boosting its population. However, the war ultimately affected the town, causing a decline in population as many were drawn away from it.
The use of dynamite in mining was curbed during the war, making it difficult for the miners to extract gold. This led to reverting to its former status as a ghost town. Although visitors can still explore the remnants of the cabins and other buildings that once housed the miners and their families, the town is no longer a popular destination for the purpose of mining.
