Mermaids Do Exist

Four years after Disneyland opened, there was an attraction called Submarine Voyage inspired by the USS Nautilus that traveled to the North Pole in 1958. There were replicas of submarines, which let guests get a scenic view underwater. More than that, viewers get to see real-life mermaids … well, kind of.

According to The Disneyland Book of Lists, these mermaids had to try out for the part. One of them was Susan Musfelt, who revealed that those interested in joining the crew must have long hair, between 18 to 24, and have swimming experience.
