Basset Hound
The primary identifying feature of Basset Hounds is their floppy ears, which isn’t for aesthetic purposes only. These help their sense of smell by bringing the scent closer to their nose. Their name comes from the French term “bas,” which means “short,” as they can only stand up to 14 inches. Their small stature is advantageous, too, because shorter legs meant closer to the ground, which translates to better tracking of scents.
Due to their height, however, fur-parents must know that Basset Hounds require regular baths because they’re closer to the ground and can pick up dirt easily. Their short legs make it hard for them to swim, too.
