Australian Shepherd
Despite its name, the Australian Shepherd was said to have come from Spain’s Basque region. Local shepherds brought the dogs to the Land Down Under before the United States, which was probably why the Americans gave them the moniker. Herders are especially familiar with this breed because the canine does an amazing job at herding.
Although not all, Australian Shepherds typically have pale blue eyes, which is why Native Americans thought they were sacred. According to AKC, they have a genetic predisposition to have different colored eyes, a condition known as heterochromia. Unfortunately, the Aussies do shed a lot, so future owners must take note of this.
