Tosa
The Tosa breed has a rather painful history. Japan’s Shikoku Inu used to rule the dogfighting scene in the country until Westerners arrived and brought dogs that were mixed with this aggressive canine. The result is the Tosa, which is also called the Japanese Mastiffs.
They can weigh up to 200 pounds and these giants aren’t gentle. They may be honored in the Land of The Rising Sun but they are not meant for first-time dog owners. Still, Tosas are quiet and not very vocal, which is perhaps a result of the silent dog fighting competitions back in the day.
