Dazed and Confused
The coming-of-age film “Dazed and Confused” saw Matthew McConaughey improvising a line, and that dialogue became unforgettable. In an interview, he revealed that his character’s “Alright, alright, alright,” came about after he listened to The Doors album, where we can hear vocalist Jim Morrison saying this four times in between the hits.
And because Wooderson is about four things, ladies, car, rock and roll, and his substance, McConaughey figured he needed to incorporate this improvisation. Three “alrights” were to signal that there were three ladies. The fourth, though, was meant to refer to a woman that he’d seen from afar.
