The irony of a significant virologist picking up one of the modern world’s deadliest viruses during a pandemic is not lost on us. But at least Dr. Joseph Fair has first-hand expertise on the virus and took the opportunity to enlighten the world on symptoms and severity.

He did a video call with NBC Today on the morning show while in the hospital with the virus. According to the video, he had been downgraded from critical, and he said that if it could take him down, it could take anyone out. He also said that he might have contracted the virus via his eyes since he had followed the nose and mouth masking protocol.
