Tereska Draws a Picture of “Home”
Most parents love getting their children a blackboard and chalk for fun art activities. The image looks like a young girl who is just scribbling around. Sadly, this is a picture of “home,” as depicted by Tereszka, a 2nd World War war orphan living in a residence for disturbed kids.
David Seymour took the extraordinary photograph in 1948. It was first published in “LIFE” magazine with the caption, “Children’s wounds are not all outward. Those made in mind by years of sorrow will take years to heal,” in part.
