Ominous Photos with Chilling Backstories

Angeline Smith Oct 23, 2022

Photos function as snapshots of the past, and several famous ones go down in history as some of the most moving pictures. The 1932 “Lunch atop a Skyscraper” picture and 1945 “V-J Day in Times Square” are perfect examples. However, not all images capture warm and fuzzy memories.

For instance, Malcolm Browne’s 1963 image of “The Burning Monk” is still quite a harrowing sight. Kevin Carter’s 1993 portrait of “The Vulture and the Little Girl” earned him a Pulitzer Prize, but sadly, the trauma he suffered afterward forced him to take his life the very next year. Here are other famous photos with ominously chilling backstories.
