Also known as “The Mountain State” for its elevation of about 1,500 feet, West Virginia is found among the eastern American states. Although it saw a net surplus in migrants, most of them moved in to find employment. Interestingly a higher percentage of people moved out of the state for the same reason.
The state in the Appalachian region held the 11th annual fundraiser race named “Conquer the Dam 5K” in May 2022. The event allows participants to walk or run on an otherwise inaccessible track. West Virginia is also the only state that was formed by separating from a Confederate state.
