Laverne Cox – Orange Is The New Black
Orange Is The New Black gave Laverne Cox recognition in the industry. She portrayed a transgender woman of color in the show, and the role earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination. Laverne has since featured on the cover of magazines like Cosmopolitan and Time. She even has a waxwork in her likeness housed at the famous Madame Tussauds museum!
Laverne has an honorary doctorate, thanks to her progressive work on gender equality awarded by The New School. She spoke about using makeup as an experimental tool, but she uses it as an enhancement tool these days. She even forgoes it altogether whenever she doesn’t need it.
