Rudolf Nureyev – Il Gallo Lungo, $2.4 Million
Ballet is a dance style often performed to mythical stories. So when legendary Russian ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev bought Il Gallo Lungo islands, he must’ve had the mythology attached to them in mind. Also called the Serenusas, the local mythology speaks of various sirens who inhabited the islands. Nureyev bought the islands in 1988 and built a luxury mansion on it, which he lived in until his death in 1992.
After Nureyev’s death, Italian Hotelier Giovanni Russo bought the island and used it as a private residence while also renting it to guests. While the islands are closed to the public, people may still swim in the crystal clear waters.
