Dr. Henry Jarecki – Guana Island, Price Undisclosed
In the 18th century, Guana Island was a sugar plantation. But by the time psychiatrist and entrepreneur, Dr. Henry Jarecki, purchased the Island in 1975, it had already been converted into a holiday destination by Boston couple Beth and Louis Bigelow.
The Bigelow couple built a few cottages on the island and used it as a private club for their Boston friends. But Jarecki, and his wife Gloria, loved what they did with the place, so they just added a few more villas and maintained the Bigelow’s rustic setting by upgrading the existing Mykonos-like cottages. The 850-acre island is now a protected nature reserve and resort.
