Louis Bacon – Robins Island, $11 Million
Louis Bacon is an American investor and philanthropist who founded Moore Capital Management. As part of his philanthropy, he bought Robins Island off the United States’ coast with the purpose of restoring it to its natural state. To do this, Bacon has funded the replanting of natural vegetation, even going as far as importing fully grown oak trees to replace those harvested for timber on the mainland.
The island has the healthiest population of turtles in the US, and Bacon regularly hosts traditional “driven pheasant” hunts on the island. Living spaces are minimal with just a few cottages, caretaker quarters, barns and out-buildings on the island.
