Dean Kamen – North Dumpling, $2.5 Million
When you invent something as revolutionary as the Segway, you’re bound to have enough money to buy an Island. But for Dean Kamen, who invented many other things, owning an island wasn’t enough. After being denied the right to install wind turbines on the island by the United States, Kamen joked that he would secede the island.
Although the secession isn’t officially recognized, the island still has it’s own flag, currency (the dumpling), and it’s own constitution. It also has its own navy, made up of one amphibious vehicle and replica of British landmark, Stonehenge. The entire island is run on a mix of wind and solar power.
