Spike Lee & Bill Lee
Spike Lee’s creative genius didn’t appear out of thin air—it’s practically in his DNA! Born on March 20, 1957, he is the son of the legendary jazz musician Bill Lee. Bill was a gifted bassist and composer who worked with icons like Bob Dylan and Aretha Franklin, and he even scored Spike’s early films like “She’s Gotta Have It” and “Do the Right Thing.”
Spike took that artistic fire and ran with it, becoming one of Hollywood’s most celebrated filmmakers. From “Malcolm X” to “BlacKkKlansman,” which won him an Oscar in 2019, Spike’s work is as iconic as his dad’s music.
