Beagles
As one of the most popular household pets in the United States, a lot of people must be familiar with Beagles. The name was derived from the French term “begueule,” which meansĀ gaped throat because of the sounds it can make. Interestingly, they were bred to become hunting dogs, which explains their great sense of smell.
They have very distinctive ears, which the AKC revealed help their smelling abilities because they catch scent particles. They also have white tails because breeders wanted to see them when they are hunting. One of the most famous beagles is the beloved Peanuts character Snoopy.
