A Woman’s Rightful Place
Some seven decades back, just about every promotional material reminded women that their rightful place was in the confines of their kitchens. At the time, the provocative marketing strategy involved painting women as controllable figures expected to do as they were told.
The poster advertises a 1900s diner, promoting the overt misrepresentation of gender roles, more so when it comes to women. It only goes downhill when they advise bachelors who don’t have a woman slaving in their kitchens to get their fix from the local diner. Sadly, 21st-century ad campaigns still use such subliminal messages, particularly when exploiting the female form.
