The Wondrous DDT
Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) isn’t only a mouthful to say but thankfully, the only time you’ll have to utter the word or its acronym is when talking about its ban. The United States prohibited its use in 1972 and several other nations also don’t support the use of the insecticide.
Initially, when it infiltrated the market, it was promoted as an effective insecticide that was equally effective in getting rid of mosquitoes. The “wonder product” was soon hailed for its ability to grow vegetables and fruits a larger size than usual. It wasn’t long before the product was soon marketed as an excellent household cleaning agent, and promotional efforts increased tenfold.
