The Glamourous Side of Industries
Pin-up drawings date back to the 1890s and they started getting a resurgence in recent years. Several artists have been re-imagining the vintage images including Valery Barykin who fuses classic retro pin-ups with ’50 themes as well as communist propaganda.
A majority of pin-ups also have roots in Russia, much like the two illustrations that were found in several American garages. Similar pin-ups emerged at a time when Russians were mostly linked to industries and office work in general. The biggest issue is their objectification of women, and while that aspect hasn’t changed much, you won’t find such overt illustrations circulated around these days.
