Meant for Teen Chubbies
Diversity is at the core of the world we live in but we are still struggling to get to a future where acceptance is universal. Weight is one of the areas where this statement couldn’t be truer, and back in the ’60s, being slim was promoted as the ideal physical aesthetic. Anyone who carried a couple of extra pounds was often the target of insensitive ad campaigns.
Take this Lane Bryant promotional pamphlet, for instance, it aims at reaching a demographic of “chubby” teens. The tagline even spells it out, the fashion booklet is free for chubbies. Even more appalling, the listed outfit sizes are what we consider as regular these days.
