He’ll Leave You if You Have Bad Breath

This poster appears to suggest that infidelity is something common. Beyond that, the advertisement also gives a rather preposterous reason why a man would choose to step out of his marriage. Bad breath is supposedly the intolerable issue that would drive a man into the arms of another woman.

Again, they are using the fear appeal concept to sell the idea that if a woman didn’t stock up on enough mints their bad breath would be the end of their marriages/ relationships. Most breath mint advertisements from that era also specifically target women, as if to imply that it was a gender-specific problem.
